Updates should not be downgrades

Despite the assurances of the developer response, I still can not login or play Scrabble. Further investigation uncovers a message on the EA Forum apparently from 5 days ago stating that for "necessary maintenance" mobile login service had to be brought down. They say theyre working on it, and that they apologize for the inconvenience.
Bottom line, one of two scenarios are true. Option 1. They are working hard to fix it and are not able to. Option 2. They are not working hard to fix it and it will probably get done at some point. Or maybe not.
Im not sure which scenario I find more depressing, but I know that its not possible for them to be BOTH highly motivated AND competent. So this app continues to disappoint.
UPDATE: Sept 2017
In another new low, EA decided to change my password because they were concerned about "suspicious activity." The email said they would never send clickable links, followed immediately by a clickable reset link. The link brought me to a webpage that said the link had expired, but that I could request a password reset. Of course that didnt work either. Finally after two days of trying, I was able to find a different password reset link on some page in the EA site, and finally the reset went through. Now I can login to Origin on the web, but the Scrabble app still rejects the credentials. I know they are good, but they dont work. I have removed the app and reinstalled it multiple times. I chatted with EA help only to be told (finally) that I could take solace in the fact that I was only one of "millions" of customers experiencing the issue, and that the developers were working hard to fix the issues for good customers like me, and the problem should be fixed "within a few hours." "A few" apparently means at least 48 hours (and counting).
Its such a shame that EA either can not or will not fix this franchise and just leave it alone. I have 200+ apps on my iPhone though I only use a few of them *every day*. And out of all of them Scrabble is the most frustrating, because the updates are always a step backwards! When EA finally resolves all the issues and the app is usable again, they publish another update and the cycle starts again. When it just works, I use it all day long. But then there are weeks at a time when somethings broken and we just have to sit and wait for EA to strap another bandage on another self-inflected wound. In this case, it doesnt even seem to be an issue with the app itself, but EA forced a password change and now I cant login? I feel like Im part of a psychological experiment to determine the limits of my tolerance for abuse, and that I am apparently possessed of latent masochistic tendencies.

Were you folks at EA Sports victimized by a Scrabble-loving gang of wordsmith nerds when you were young? Did your parents beat you with Scrabble boards? Why do you continue to introduce new problems every time you update the app? Your continued release of terrible updates seems like a slow and devious revenge.
This app doesnt need new features. It doesnt need new animations or sound effects. It just needs to actually work. It worked great 4-5 years ago, but every update seems to bring new problems.
Current issues:
-Duplicate games both in the current game list and in the recent games list. My opponent is listed as guest in one game, then by username in the next. Why?
-Volume of podcasts/music playing in background is reduced whenever Scrabble is active. Why?
-About every 6-7 days I get games where my turn display doesnt show all of the tiles that have been played. Sometimes it is the center square, sometime it is my previous play. Why?
Can we get some developers working on this app who actually play it? Nobody who actually plays the game daily (like most of us who PAID for this app do) would be satisfied playing with the issues that users describe here and on the EA support forums. Please give this game the attention it deserves.
